World politicians praise Corbyn’s positive campaign
POLITICIANS and pundits across the world have hailed Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership after he ran a “positive” campaign. Former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders led the plaudits after Labour exceeded expectations to clobber the Tories. The Vermont Senator said: “I am delighted to see Labour do so well. People in the UK, the US and elsewhere want governments that represent all the people, not just the 1%. I congratulate Jeremy Corbyn for running a very positive and effective campaign.” Bill Shorten, leader of the Australian Labor Party, said: “[Corbyn’s] slogan was, ‘For the many, not the few’. Mr Turnbull [Australia’s Prime Minister] would be well advised to look at the popularity of that message.” Belgian ex-pm Elio Di Rupo tweeted: “Congratulations to @jeremycorbyn for his positive campaign and to the Labour Party for its good results.” And Martin Schulz, former president of the European Parliament, also congratulated Mr Corbyn, saying they had spoken by phone. US President Donald Trump called the result “surprising” and refused to elaborate. In India, papers took an interest in two other Labour MPS. Preet Gill has become our first Sikh woman MP and Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi is the first turban-wearing Sikh in the Commons. Even Hollywood star Danny Devito cheered the stunning result. He tweeted: “Way to go U.K. Congrats! Recognize the real deal! Jeremy Corbyn showing us how it’s done!”
