JAMIE: LEARN THE LESSONS OF GERS MAULING
LINFIELD captain Jamie Mulgrew is eager lightning doesn’t strike twice when the Blues clash with an Old Firm foe at Windsor Park.
David Healy’s men were left embarrassed by a 7-0 scoreline when Glasgow Rangers visited the South Belfast venue for Mulgrew’s testimonial 10 months ago.
Kenny Miller was on target early doors and helped himself to a first-half hat-trick as the Gers went 5-0 up within half an hour.
Ahead of tonight’s Champions League showdown with Celtic, Mulgrew (left) said: “You only enjoy games like this if you give a good account of yourself.
“If it ends up like my testimonial with Rangers, you don’t enjoy it.
“No one likes to play in a match and get tanked. You only have to look at that Rangers game to know how important a good start is. If you concede an early goal, you can become fearful of what lies ahead.
“It will be vital to start well against Celtic.
“It’s important to get a foothold and gain confidence. We’ll want touches on the ball and hopefully become more settled.”
Mulgrew, a boyhood Rangers fan, accepts Linfield face a “near impossible task” against a Celtic side who are 1/100 odds on to qualify for the next round.
The Irish League’s player of the season said: “We all watched Celtic last season and we know how dominant they were.
“We know it’s going to be very difficult, but it’s about us giving a good account of ourselves and the league.”
