China: Stop missile tests
N Korea’s only ally calls for end to ‘provocation’ and start of talks
CHINA has finally got tough with North Korea and backed harsh sanctions designed to halt its nuclear missile tests.
Despot Kim Jong-un’s sole ally agreed to the UN’S £770,000-ayear package targeting exports.
China’s foreign minister Wang Yi said he wanted to force North Korea back into negotiations and had told its foreign minister Ri Yong-ho: “Do not provoke the international community by conducting missile launches or nuclear tests.”
US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley hailed the sanctions deal a “gut punch” to the rogue state after recent missile tests.

Ms Haley praised the UN vote – also backed by Russia – saying it “spoke with one voice” at last.
The UK welcomed the crackdown, with Foreign Office Minister Lord Ahmad saying Kim’s regime “needs to change its course immediately”.
