Stunt riding into history
Hundreds of fans fight & hurl bricks
SNAPS showing the 90-year history of the army’s White Helmets motorcycle display team have been released ahead of their final performance.
Riders are seen forming pyramids, braving fire and crashing through walls.
The group will thrill crowds for the last time next month in Lancashire.
Leader Capt Jonathan Mclelland said: “We don’t use bikes for messages now. To perform as the last riders will be an honour.”
ON THE FOOTBALL VIOLENCE
PETRIFIED children as young as 10 were injured when hundreds of football fans brawled after a game.
Youngsters were caught in the middle when Middlesbrough and Sheffield United supporters fought and hurled bricks and stones at each other.
Trouble flared up in the stadium just before the final whistle. Stewards kept rival fans apart but more than 200 thugs clashed in a car park after the match.
Assistant Chief Constable Jason Harwin, of Cleveland police, said: “It’s terrifying for children to witness such violence, or be embroiled in it as their parents frantically try to keep them safe.”
Dozens of police tried to stop the mayhem outside the Riverside Stadium on Saturday after Middlesbrough beat the visitors 1-0 in the Championship. An officer needed hospital treatment.
There have been five arrests. Trouble began when United had a late goal disallowed. It sparked a minor pitch invasion.
Video footage shows a supporter appearing to spit towards a young child.
