It’s not the only Fools & Horses

-

CLASSIC sitcom Only Fools and Horses might not be completely consigned to the repeats graveyard.

After helping to write spinoff series The Green Green Grass a decade ago, creator John Sullivan’s son Jim is not finished yet.

He said: “I’ve always said that Only Fools – the series as we know it – was laid to rest with my dad. However, that’s not to say that the show and its characters cannot, and will not, be explored in different mediums.

“All I can say at the moment is: watch this space. Is it a question of protecting my father’s legacy? Absolutely – that has always been, and always will be, my priority.”

Jim wrote the 2014 Fools and Horses Sports Relief special, staying true to the roots of the show created by dad John, who died in 2011. But he admits he did not find it easy, saying: “It was a great experience but I felt pressure to get it right and do justice to the characters.”

You would be a plonker not to take advantage of the doors being opened, though.

He adds: “If the idea was right, I’d love to try my hand at sitcom. But I’m also interested in film. Being my dad’s son is a bit of a double-edged sword.

“It’s one hell of an act to follow, but at the same time I’ve had opportunities I probably wouldn’t have had if my dad wasn’t who he was.

“I’d like to find my own way and do my best.”

Go on, Jim... this time next year you’ll be a millionaire!

To mark its 25th birthday the Gold channel airs UKTV originals David Jason: My Life On Screen at 6pm on August 26 and The Story Of Only Fools And Horses at 8pm, August 29.
