GUNNER WIN THE LEAGUE?

-

time when Davy Ross converted.

Richhill started the second half as they

had ended the first but they couldn’t find a way of breaching the Slane rearguard.

And the hosts then hit them on the break for their second of the game when Spence scored from close range.

Captain Ervine made it three with a stunning drive from 30 yards before Ross’ second reduced the arrears again. But credit to Moneyslane, they responded in fine fashion and grabbed a fourth right at the death when Spence fed Kernaghan and he made no mistake with his finish.

It wasn’t a vintage Slane performance but Thornton (above) was delighted with the way his side overcame the challenge in front of them.

“I actually gave the boys a bit of a going over after the game,” he revealed.

“That was maybe a bit harsh but our expectations are very high now and we weren’t at our best.

“Richhill are a very strong team and really hard to break down.

“I think they will pick up plenty of points this season, especially at home. It was 1-1 at half-time after we’d missed a few chances but in the second half we were by far the better team.”

Next up for Moneyslane is a trip to Tandragee Rovers this evening.

The hosts have bounced back from their opening day defeat to Banbridge Rangers with two wins.

And Thornton is well aware of the size of the task awaiting his team when they get to Madden Road.

“Our games against Tandragee have always been good,” he said.

“Last season they were very tight so I’d expect that to be the same again this time.

“I see they have strengthened themselves and they look to be up and running now with a couple of wins.

“They’re so hard to beat, especially at their place, so we’ll have to be at our best again.”
