Neymar warns Liverpool that Coutinho is in turmoil after being refused his dream move to Barca
NEYMAR has warned Jurgen Klopp that Philippe Coutinho is devastated at having his dream move to Barcelona blocked.
Coutinho is away on international duty with Brazil alongside Neymar, who became the world’s most expensive player at £199 million in the transfer window. Barca wanted Coutinho as his replacement, but Kop boss Klopp refused to sell.
Neymar said: “Unfortunately, instead of being a happy time for him, for his family, it’s a moment of anguish, disappointment and sadness. I like to see him happy
because he is a team-mate and a friend that I’ve had for a long time.”
Getting Coutinho back on an even keel will be a massive challenge for Klopp. Coutinho flies back from Brazil’s World Cup qualifier in Colombia on Wednesday.
He has yet to play for Liverpool this season because of a back injury diagnosed by a Brazil team doctor as “stress”.
Coutinho came on as a substitute and scored in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Ecuador on Thursday.
Neymar added: “He was rewarded with a goal today, for his and our joy.”
Paris Saint-germain’s spending spree on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe is being investigated by UEFA.
European football’s governing body will look at whether PSG breached its rules on Financial Fair Play, particularly over Mbappe’s loan from Monaco.
