Menuisier’s Thundering looks a storming bet at Sandown
THUNDERING BLUE looks ripe for a hat-trick in the Betbright Recall Handicap (3.35) at Sandown.
The David Menuisier-trained grey has sprouted wings since being allowed to tackle 10 furlongs, marking his second try at the trip with a wide-margin call at Epsom in July.
Thundering Blue followed up off a 7lb higher rating when beating Atkinson Grimshaw by a length at Newmarket last month.
My selection has to cope with 4lb more on his back, and today’s assignment is tougher, but Jim Crowley’s mount has
plenty more to offer and is taken to prove up to the job.
The champion jockey has a good chance of lifting Sandown’s opening Betfinder By Betbright Handicap (1.50) aboard SHAMSHON.
Stuart Williams’ speedball has a victory, a third and a fourth from three visits to
Esher. He is just 2lb higher than when scoring at Newmarket in July and should take advantage of a good draw in stall four.
John Gosden (above), who has saddled Kingman and Raven’s Pass to success in the
Betbright Solario Stakes (2.25), has another likely candidate in PURSER.
The son of Mizzen Mast showed signs of inexperience before getting up on the line for a head margin at Newbury 15 days ago and will improve for that. At Beverley, KIMBERELLA has much to recommend him in the Beverley Bullet (3.15).
Formerly trained by the late Dandy Nicholls, the seven-year-old has won three times for Richard Fahey this year, including at Listed level on his penultimate outing. A reproduction of that would make him hard to beat.
Tim Easterby’s string are at the top of their game and BREAKABLE,
a good second at York’s Ebor Festival on his latest start, can go one better in Chester’s corbettsports.com Handicap (2.45).
He didn’t shine on rainsoftened ground at Glorious SHRAAOH Goodwood, but had run with credit over a mile and a half on his previous two outings of the campaign and should relish the extra yardage in the corbettsports.com Chester Handicap (2.10).
