Leicester gave me taste for trophies.. Blues will supply ‘em

DANNY DRINKWATER reckons there is no better club to satisfy his thirst for trophies than champions Chelsea.

The England midfielder finally secured a £35million move from Leicester in the early hours of yesterday morning after the champions were granted an extension beyond the 11pm deadline-day cut-off.

The 27-year-old playmaker, who started his career at Manchester United, was given a taste for silverware when he won his first major trophy in 2016, a fairytale Premier League title triumph with Leicester.

Now he has joined a club who are a little more used to winning top honours.

Drinkwater (above) said: “Leicester has been great for me but I am looking to carry on from the season before last when we won the

Premier League there. I want to win more trophies, which

Leicester understood – and where better to do it than Chelsea?

“I am at a good age now to kick on. I have gained a lot of experience in important matches and hopefully that will show.” Moving to Stamford Bridge will see Drinkwater reunited with his old Leicester midfield partner N’golo Kante (above). He said: “I played with N’golo for a season and I don’t think there was a game I didn’t enjoy playing next to him. “I am now looking forward to carrying on where we left off. “I think we hit it off from the first game and after that we hardly lost.

“He is a top lad, the most down-to-earth person you will meet.

“I can’t see him changing much and I am really looking forward to meeting him again.”

Drinkwater has yet to play this season due to injury but, ironically, could now make his debut for Chelsea, who took Leicester’s Premier League title, at the King Power next Saturday.

He added: “I don’t know what the odds on that were.

“Hopefully I will get a good reception but I am a Chelsea player now so will be looking for three points.”
