Breathtaking shock for Doc

DOCTOR FOSTER BBC1 9pm

THIS Suranne Jones-led drama was a smash hit when it first aired in 2015.

It won the star a BAFTA and picked up 10 million viewers for its thrillingly tense finale.

Depending on your viewpoint, it was either a tale of sweet revenge exacted by a betrayed wife, or the psychotic actions of a woman who couldn’t get over her husband bagging a younger girlfriend – and going full bunny boiler.

In the two years since the violent climax which led to Simon leaving town with pregnant girlfriend Kate, GP Gemma seems to have done a pretty good job of putting her life back together.

She and teenage son Tom are still living in their nice John Lewis catalogue-style house, she’s back at work, and on good terms with the neighbours.

That’s until red envelopes are delivered all over town, which turn out to contain invites to a party: Simon and Kate have got married and are coming home.

Yep, the loved-up hubby, his young bride and daughter Amelie are all on their way back to Parminster, to their swanky new house.

And they want to invite all their friends and neighbours over to help them celebrate.

Needless to say, this doesn’t thrill Dr Foster.

And when she gets a cursory text informing her of their new address, she can’t resist the urge to check out the house, going inside for a nosey about.

As she hears Simon’s car in the driveway and we realise the pair are about to come face to face, the air is so thick with tension we realised we actually forgot to breathe for a while.

Ooh, it’s good.
