HENDRICK KO’D FOR SERB TEST
JEFF HENDRICK is out of tonight’s qualifier with Serbia - and Wes Hoolahan and Aiden Mcgeady are doubts.
Burnley midfielder Hendrick (above) missed Saturday’s grim 1-1 draw away to Georgia because of a quad injury.
And while he trained alone with the Irish medical staff on Sunday, Martin O’neill ruled him out of contention yesterday after a scan. O’neill said: “He did some work with the medical team but no, he was still feeling it a bit when going completely full out and will miss out.”
Hoolahan, who didn’t feature in Tbilisi, did train yesterday but O’neill said the Norwich ace is nursing a tight groin.
And Mcgeady, who could have won the game late on in Georgia, had a scan on a hamstring problem but should be available.
David Mcgoldrick was ruled out on Sunday having missed Georgia for personal reasons back home in England.
But despite hinting last week at a role for Sean Maguire, the former Cork City striker will not be a late addition to squad for this game.
O’neill said: “We’ll leave it at that. The boys that are here, this is what we’ll go with. This is a big, big game.
“Unless something happens in the next 14 hours, I wouldn’t imagine bringing anybody in.”
Meanwhile, Seamus Coleman is lending his voice to the cause behind the scenes.
The Ireland captain was played a supporting role at training yesterday and is staying with the squad ahead of tonight’s crunch clash with Serbia.
Yesterday, Ireland boss Martin O’neill said: “It’s always a boost to see Seamus around and about the place. He’s a world class player, he’s been a really, really great captain since he’s taken it over.”
