“I’m at a club now where things are looking up so hopefully at the end of the season we’ll be able to celebrate some success.”

Mcvey has once again been reunited with his old team-mate Darren Henderson.

The pair came through the ranks together at Coleraine, and were at Ballymena together too, before putting pen to paper for the Ports a few days apart over the summer.

He’ll be a familiar face in unfamiliar surroundin­gs, not that Mcvey needed any help in settling in, with the central defender made to feel welcome from day one.

“Since I’ve been there, I’ve been surprised at how the community is so behind the team,” said Mcvey.

“They had a fun day there in July and the whole place was buzzing.

“And the whole atmosphere has been good, everyone knows Portadown are a big club and they should still be in the Premiershi­p.

“But it is what it is, we’re in the Championsh­ip now but we want to go straight back up again. We want that and I think the whole of Portadown wants that, that’s where Portadown belong.”
