“Once you get one or two wins then momentum is with you but, if we’re going to do that, then the workrate has to be there.” He added: “Saturday past was a convincing victory. “We play Sandy Hill every pre-season and I’ve a lot of time for the people at that club. It was 2-2 between us in the summer and we’ve been shipping a lot of goals in the early parts of this season.

“So to get the clean sheet was as pleasing as anything.

“They’re a good team, they’ve grown up together and we’re rebuilding the club.

“We got a lot of boys back in which was great and the more cup games you get to play the more chance you have of gelling everyone together.

“We want a top half finish this season but a cup run would be a great bonus.

“We added nine to the squad this season and they’re a good balance between senior and younger players. There are that many clubs around us in the Portadown area that it can be hard to get the players you want.

“But we’re very happy with the squad we’ve put together this season.

“Hopefully if we can keep winning games confidence will continue to grow.

“There are probably six or seven who can win Intermedia­te B this season.

“Everyone is taking points off each other too so it doesn’t look like anybody is going to run away with it.

“If we can adapt as quickly as possible then we can achieve what we want to this season.”
