Where there’s a Wil.. there could be a way

-

THE draw hasn’t been kind to Moghamarah in today’s two-year-old fillies maiden in Gowran Park. But she should still be tough to beat.

She’s a filly we’ve always liked, by Dawn Approach. And she has run well in both her starts, at the Curragh and Galway.

She took on the boys on her debut at the Curragh, in a four-horse race. She missed the kick and, in the circumstances, did well to run Strike For Freedom to a half-length.

Our filly had her second start in Galway. Drawn one from the outside, I had to drop her in and take my time, instead of rushing her up the outside.

I crept into contention and, up the hill, she stayed on well to be second, beaten a half-length by Shekeba.

The third Sizzling went on to win her maiden in Tipperary and ran well in Doncaster on Thursday. And the fourth, Raynama is in the field again today.

We’re drawn in ten, in a field of fourteen. But, if she jumps well, I should be able to be handy on her and get her settled, close to the pace, and make my move in the straight.

is working well and has definitely improved since Galway. We know she goes on soft ground so she should have a big chance.

My other ride for the boss (Kevin Prendergast - pictured with me below) is in the conditions race over a mile.

This fellow has been running well without winning, although he was a little disappointing last time in the Irish Cambridgeshire.

He had earlier run second to Tony The Gent at the Curragh and finished seventh to Riven Light in the Colm Quinn BMW Mile in Galway.

At the weights, Mizaah should have a big chance. But it’s a tight race, with Dermot Weld’s filly an obvious danger to us.

And I liked the way John Oxx’s filly

won her maiden – she could be the dark-horse of the race.

I picked-up a good ride in the big race, the Group 3 fillies race, in the shape of the English challenger

Martyn Meade’s filly is dropping in class, having run in a Group in France last time.

But her earlier form, a second to Elizabeth Browning in the Group 2 Kilboy Estates Stakes at the Curragh looks solid enough form and she came to the Curragh on the back of a listed win in Nottingham.

Wilamina has form on slow ground, if not heavy. And, if she produces her best, she should be involved in an open race.

My other ride,

for Jane Foley, in the maiden, needs to improve on his two runs to have any chance.

MIXED luck in Listowel, a meeting where I’ve enjoyed plenty of success over the years.

In ended by week in

North Kerry with two winners, a double on

Monday on Eire Rock, a nice two-year-old, for

Fozzy Stack and Hilary Mcloughlin’s course specialist Count Of

Carabass.

But I also picked up a two day

‘holiday’ for the whip on County Of

Carabass – I’ll miss

Roscommon and

Tipperary later in the month.
