CELT’S LIAM CANCER FIGHT
Shock diagnosis for 36-year-old as team-mates offer support
FORMER Celtic and Republic of Ireland midfielder Liam Miller is reportedly battling cancer.
The 36-year-old Corkman, who is now playing in the US, is said to be battling for his life after being diagnosed with the illness.
Last night former Ireland teammates offered their support. Ian Harte said: “Very sad news about
one of my old team-mates Liam Miller, thinking of him and his family at this very difficult time.”
Former team-mate Noel Hunt added: “Such sad news about my old room mate Liam Miller, Pray to God he pulls through this battle with Cancer, my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”
Local journalist Barry O’mahony also paid tribute and sent his well wishes to the former Manchester United player who was capped 21 times.
He tweeted: “Praying for Liam Miller tonight, who is battling for his life. The 36-year-old is from the same area as myself. The community is in shock. I will never forget his winner for Leeds against Southampton in 2005 having been down 3-0.”
Miller – who is married with one son – signed with third-tier United Soccer League side Wilmington Hammerheads in North Carolina in February last year.
Hibs Fans News tweeted last night: “Thoughts and prayers go out to ex Hibs midfielder Liam Miller tonight as he currently undergoes chemotherapy in the USA for cancer. One of the best midfielders I’ve seen at Easter Road. Keep fighting Liam.”
