3,300 disabled in OAP housing
AT least 3,300 disabled people aged 18 to 64 are being put up in old people’s care homes, a study today reveals. Lack of specialist housing meant up to one in seven were in the accommodation, the MS Society and the Care and Support Alliance said. It said only half of the 152 local authorities responded to their requests for figures. Michelle Mitchell of the MS Society called the situation “fundamentally wrong”. She said: “This is one symptom of a social care system in crisis.” The charities found 75% of people feared for their future if they needed care themselves.
