Emotion high as Fash sees value of medical weed
Watching Pam St Clement take a hit from a bong may have had people in stitches on Monday’s Gone to Pot but the second episode of the ITV show takes a far more emotional turn.
Former footballer John Fashanu ends up in tears when he meets 13-year-old Gianna, who has a similar life-threatening illness to his eldest son, in which they suffer hundreds of seizures a day.
But Fash learns that 90% of Gianna’s fits reduced after she began a radical treatment plan including medical marijuana and he breaks down as he evaluates how it could have helped his son when he was younger: “It means what we’ve been through didn’t need to happen. It didn’t need to go on. It means we were deprived of the help we could have got and should have got.” He even makes an about-turn on his famous anti-drugs stance, stating: “How do we say no to the legalisation of marijuana when you’ve seen what we’ve just seen?”
What originally sounded like being clickbait TV has actually ended up being an intelligent debate on the issue. The next episode is on at 9pm tonight.
