“We were absolutely top drawer,” purred the Swifts chief. “Everything we worked on on Saturday, we did tonight. We had a plan to press them high up the pitch and to try and win the ball back as quick as we could and then we knew we had pace in the right areas to go and hurt them.

“We knew that if we played our football, and stuck to what we do, that they would struggle with us because we have clever players in the right places.

“It was always going to be a physical team against a quick team, so it was whichever team imposed themselves on the game would go on and win it and I think we did that ok – I’m so pleased.” DAVY Dorrian was beaming with pride after Linfield Swifts produced a football masterclas­s to dismantle Immaculata in their Steel Cup semi-final at Seaview last night.

Goals from Ross Clarke, Eamonn Scannell, Ryan Strain and Stevie Fallon swept the Amateur League men aside as the Wee Blues kept alive their hopes of back-to-back triumphs in the revered 120-year-old competitio­n, with the defence of their crown against Newington YC in the Christmas Day showpiece.
