Lee’s Ards side had title resolve
still scoring with the likes of Paul Davies coming in, and big Stephen Hislop has moved up front and scored a few for us.
“Our squad has been tested but we have done well so far and those guys who are our will have to fight for their places when they come back.”
It was Davies who had scored Ards’ winner in the last minute against Kilmore and the returning Gerard Watson had levelled for the visitors early in the second half.
As well as that night’s game against Nortel, looming on the ho- rizon was a title-deciding double-header against Albert Foundry, who had sent out a statement of their intent with a -7-2 mauling of Malachians. But true to his mantra, Forsythe was reluctant to look beyond their clash against Jamesie Kirk’s Nortel at Monkstown Avenue.
“I’m not looking past Nortel, I’ll look at those games when they come around but we need to get points from Nortel first, and that’s just from experience,” said Forsythe (inset)
“I’ve done that before, looking too far ahead and it got us nowhere, so if we win our games, they could be big matches but if we lose against Nortel or lost against Islandmagee, those games could mean nothing. They are only big games if we get the points on the board.
“Yesterday, after beating Kilmore it was great but then I think I enjoyed it for about 10 minutes and then I started thinking ‘who am I going to play against Nortel’.
“You can’t ever kick back and enjoy it with games coming thick and fast at this time of the year.”
