SHERE CLASS FROM JACK AND SIX-GOAL GUNNERS

-

IF Jack Wilshere can’t get into the Arsenal first team after this he needs to start thinking about the January transfer window.

After two assists, including a sublime pass to remind Wenger of his vision and a sumptuous first goal since 2015, the England midfielder will have been pleased with his night’s work. In fact, this was an all-round show of the wonderful strength in depth at Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has fielded a few weakened sides in this competition to win Group H.

But the line-up that sliced up BATE Borisov here would not have looked out of place in the Premier League.

Wilshere, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott have yet to start a Premier League match between them this season. The likes of Francis Coquelin, Danny Welbeck and Mohamed Elneny have been in Wenger’s strongest teams over the years.

Despite performing in front of one of the lowest crowds at the Emirates they made mincemeat of the Belarusians.

Mathieu Debuchy (left) opened the scoring with his first goal since 2014, a diagonal strike from just inside the box.

Walcott, captain on the night, hit a low second from close range before Wilshere volleyed a third. He set up the fourth for Walcott to race onto, and from the winger’s ball across the box, defender Denis Polyakov put through his own net.

Polyakov brought down Walcott and Giroud netted from the spot. Goal of the night came from Elneny, as he curled a firsttime strike from Wilshere’s pass into the top corner.
