ROHINGYA ‘GENOCIDE’

Myanmar chiefs face charges over deaths of 9,000 Muslims

- BY MATTHEW YOUNG

MYANMAR leaders could face genocide charges over the campaign against the Rohingya people.

Around 9,000 Muslims have been killed by troops or starved to death in the country.

And 630,000 fled for Bangladesh after being stripped of their citizenship, denied rights, and branded “stateless”. UN human rights commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein tells tonight’s BBC Panorama, Myanmar: The Hidden Truth: “You cannot rule out the possibility that acts of genocide have been committed. Given the scale of the military operation, these decisions would have to be taken at a high level.

“If it came to your knowledge this was being committed and you did nothing to stop them then you could be culpable as well.” Mr Al Hussein criticised Myanmar leader and Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi for failing to halt the crisis.

He said: “I appealed to her to bring this to a close, and to my regret it didn’t seem to happen.”

Britain is to provide an emergency £50million aid package to help feed millions of civilians caught up in the Yemeni civil war. DAVINA Mccall looks full of fun on a break to Sydney.

The TV presenter, 50 – who recently split from her hubby of 17 years, Matthew Robertson – posted pics of herself giggling while playing sleekaboo – hiding in palms in her gym gear.
