DAVID’S FEELING SO BLUE Linfield 3 Warrenpoint Town 3

- BY ALEX MILLS

DAVID HEALY is rapidly losing patience with his misfiring champions as Linfield’s title defence hangs by a thread.

The Blues were perhaps fortunate to earn a draw against a plucky Warrenpoint (below) at Windsor Park but the result means they now trail league leaders Coleraine by a whopping 14 points. Yes, they have two games in hand but it’s a long way back.

Conor Mcmenamin, Darren Murray and Martin Murray – who converted a penalty with practically the last kick – were on the mark for the visitors while Andy Waterworth, Andy Mitchell and Stephen Fallon netted for the Blues.

“To a man, one to eleven, we were not good enough,” rapped Healy (above).

“Credit to Warrenpoint, they deserved at least a draw. In fact, we were fortunate to get away with a point. I’m hugely disappointed, to the degree I feel a wee bit embarrassed.

Even when we went 2-1 in front in the first half, in all honesty, we got off the hook.

“And, when we took the lead with five minutes to go, we failed miserably to see it out.”

With the title gradually slipping out of sight, Healy added: “The gap is too big and certainly larger than I’d hoped for at this stage of the season. It’s probably out of our hands now.”

Town boss Matty Tipton hailed his boys’ character to grab a draw right at the finish. He said: “Perhaps some will say that we raised our game because it was Linfield. The truth is we’ve been doing it week in, week out but just haven’t had the rub of the green in some games.”
