DANGEROUS Carl: Nonito will bring out my best, he’s a DEVASTATING threat to Windsor world title dream

- BY GARETH FULLERTON

CARL FRAMPTON believes the threat of hard-hitting Nonito Donaire will keep him “on edge” ahead of their April 21 showdown.

Frampton came face-to-face with the dangerous Filipino at yesterday’s opening press conference in Belfast.

A smiling Donaire was full of praise for the home favourite, in a fight both boxers have described as ‘make-or-break’.

Frampton is hoping the clash can act as a stepping stone to a world title shot at Windsor Park this summer.

He is also aware defeat will leave his career at a potential crossroads.

“I think Donaire will bring out the best in me. I will be on edge the whole camp.,” Frampton said.

“He is a hell of a fighter, he’s world class with devastating knockout power.

“I will need to be on it from start to finish, and he will be the only person on my mind during training camp.

“I will be thinking about him a lot in this camp, and that will push me on.

“I feel relaxed, and I feel like I am ready to win a world title again.

“It is important to feel relaxed in this business. It is a hard game and you need to enjoy it. So I am ready to put on big performances.”

Frampton still craves a trilogy fight with old rival Leo Santa Cruz.

The Jackal wrested the WBA featherweight title from Santa Cruz in the summer of 2016, only to lose the rematch 12 months ago in Las Vegas.

Frampton would love to get the Mexican over to Belfast for the decider, but he insists his full focus is on the man called ‘The Filipino Flash’.

“I need to win this fight if I want the decider against Leo Santa Cruz,” Frampton added.

“Donaire is in the same situation. It is a mustwin for the both of us, and that should ensure fireworks when we meet in the ring.

“Windsor Park motivates me. The carrot is dangling in front of me.

“That would be me realising a dream, winning a world title there. But I don’t want to be disrespectful to Nonito Donaire. He is the only man on my mind at the minute.

“It is going to be a long build-up and both of us will be in fantastic shape. And I will need to be.

“I never predict outcomes, but I predict a win, and however it comes will happen.

“I still pack a punch and I can knock out any featherweight.

“He can also punch, and he can box. So it promises to be a great fight.”
