I lost 5st after nurse told me: You’re obese

- BY AMY COLES

AN electrician’s impressive weight loss was sparked by a nurse warning him he was obese.

Dann Sullivan, 30, has shed 5st 2lbs in a year and is training for his first marathon.

The 5ft 9in dad-of-two, who went from 16st 12lb to 11st 10lb and lost 8in from his waist, has been named Slimming World’s Mr Sleek 2018.

He said: “Working in a male-dominated environ- ment and being bigger you have to put up with a lot of banter about your size. I laughed it off but I was really unhappy.

“A soul-destroying moment came when I realised I wasn’t fit enough to run around on the football pitch and had to start playing in goal.

“At my heaviest I felt that I wasn’t as competent as I should be at work either. Every night I’d come home exhausted and in pain.”

The nurse who told Dann he was obese offered him 12 weeks of Slimming World membership on the NHS. He joined, followed an eating plan and began high-intensity workouts.

He said: “I’d encourage other men not to dismiss slimming clubs as just for women.” Dann, who lives with his wife and daughters in Solihull, West Mids, said he had tried numerous diets before but would soon lose interest.

He added: “Just watching my girls running around used to tire me out.

Now I feel like a new man.”
