It’s a great job but my focus is all on Celts

HIBS BOSS LENNY COY ON SCOTS GIG

- BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY

NEIL LENNON is willing to speak to the SFA about taking the Scotland job if they come calling and are given permission by Hibs to open talks.

Easter Road boss Lennon refused to discuss the situation directly yesterday but sources believe the Lurgan man is open to a discussion with Hampden chiefs if they decide he’s the man they want to replace Gordon Strachan.

Lennon was yesterday touted for the Scotland job by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers – whom he’ll face today in the Premiership at Parkhead. And the 46-year-old admitted he was extremely flattered by his countryman’s comments after the SFA failed to land their top target Michael O’neill.

He said: “It’s very flattering, I thought Brendan was my mate!

“When you have a manager of the calibre of Brendan talking about you like that then it’s very much appreciated. I’m not canvassing for the job obviously but from a personal point of view it means a lot.

“Look, I’m not here to talk about the Scotland job because it’s unfair.

“I’m the Hibs manager, I know the job’s available but there’s been no contact and I’m sure they got umpteen contenders for the job. I think it’s a very good job.”

Lennon says forward Anthony Stokes will not feature against Celtic today following off-field disciplinary issues. The Hibs boss also admitted Danny Swanson could leave the club.

Stuart Armstrong, Marvin Compper, Jonny Hayes, Anthony Ralston and Tom Rogic remain out for Celtic.
