Robbed as I tended my parents’ grave
Plea for help after bag snatched from car
A GRIEVING woman told yesterday how sick thieves targeted her car as she visited her parents’ grave.
Mum-of-three Irene Mccready, from Donaghadee, had gone to tend the family plot at Inch Abbey near Downpatrick, Co Down, when the thieves struck.
The 58-year-old – who lost her dad just three weeks ago – is distraught as the thugs took her handbag which had belonged to her late mother, who died late last year.
Irene added: “I’m just so annoyed by it. I went down with my elderly uncle to see the grave and clear away daddy’s wreaths, my seatbelt got caught in the door so it didn’t lock properly and I hadn’t realised.
“But I had actually covered my handbag over so it wasn’t visible but it didn’t matter sadly.
“I got the stuff cleared and the undertakers had put a temporary headstone on it and added daddy to it, so I went back to my car to get my phone and I realised it was gone.
“I was so distressed, the grave diggers very kindly phoned the police for me and my husband John, I was a bit hysterical, it was just so shocking.”
The bag described as being navy with three pockets inside and a little Scotty is dog on the front but is not similar to the Radley brand.
Irene said: “I hope someone has a conscience and will leave it in somewhere so I can get it back, I don’t care about retribution I just want it back.”
