A word in your ear

-

WOULDN’T it be handy if in times of need you could have a little guardian angel whispering words of wisdom into your ear? A mini cheerleading squad to shout “You can do it!”

In this sweet new series, 10 Brits who are about to embark on one of the toughest weeks of their lives welcome the support and advice of strangers from around the world. Through a secret earpiece, ‘the Sages’ as the BBC coins them, can see what’s going on via cameras and speak to them live day and night.

The advice comes from an eclectic mix of people – an Irish nun, a South African healer, a couple of retired cops from New York, two Italian mamas and a Norwegian health guru.

There’s a slight Gogglebox feel as the Sages comment on the goings on in Britain. Aside from the emotion and humour as the Brits receive secret tips, support and the occasional telling off, it’s fascinating to find out how people solve things in different cultures.

South African healer Elisa wants Brett, 37, anxious dad of newborn twins, to slaughter a chicken in celebration.

He doesn’t quite go that far, but he does impress wife Jess with nun Sister Una’s burping techniques. Elsewhere, the Sages give Dan, 35, some coaching in the run-up to his wedding day as he struggles with fatigue after a double stroke. “Where do you find these people? They’re incredible!” he exclaims.

Certainly by the end, you’ll wish you had an earpiece of your own.
