Midwife held my baby and said she’d had a fling with my man
Mum claims TV nurse admitted 3mth affair
A NEW mum found out her policeman partner had been having an affair with a midwife when the nurse cared for her on the maternity ward.
Now Joanne Lumsden, who appeared on Channel 4 reality show One Born Every Minute, is under investigation for allegedly failing to tell bosses about her fling.
The mum, who does not want to be named, said: “She was round my bed, holding the baby. She was commenting, saying, ‘Doesn’t the baby look like his dad’.”
Ms Lumsden had looked after her and the baby the day after the birth. The mum became suspicious when it became apparent the nurse knew her partner.
She said: “They were talking on the ward at my bedside. He told me he knew her through work. I knew something was not right.”
She got a different story later from the midwife, who told her she had met him in Benidorm, where he had been on a men-only trip 14 months before.
The mum said: “She said, ‘I rubbed sun cream into his back’. That’s what she told me on the ward while I’m there with my baby trying to breast feed her.”
About a week later, a community midwife visited the mum at her home and she told her about her suspicions.
The community midwife got Ms Lumsden to call the mum and she learned of her partner’s three-month affair. She said: “She phoned me up and told me everything. They had spent time together, they were having sex.”
It is understood Ms Lumsden has left her post at Liverpool Women’s Hospital after disciplinary action was taken against her and the community midwife.
In November, the mum, who is no longer with her child’s father, launched an official complaint and is taking legal action against the hospital trust. She said: “I am always going to have that vision, her holding my baby, her face.
“It will haunt me for the rest of my life.” The hospital trust confirmed disciplinary action had been taken and said: “We would like to apologise for the upset caused to the patient.”
