FOLLOWING the thrills and spills of Cheltenham last week, we switch codes for Doncaster’s Lincoln Handicap (3.35).
As befits its position as a long-established highlight to the start of the Flat season, it’s a race with many trends — the most important being:
Six or younger.
9st 4lb or less. Winning form over at least a mile.
Either fit from Dubai or not run since the autumn.
We are quickly down to a shortlist of Chelsea Lad, Grey Britain, Addeybb, Repercussion and Fire Brigade from the 22-strong field.
Much is written about the effect of the draw in today’s contest, but the jockeys tend to race in one group on the middle to near side — which means the winner can come from anywhere.
The Cambridgeshire consolation race won by
Addeybb last September is a significant trial for today and a strict interpretation of that form gives him the beating of FIRE BRIGADE.
However, Michael Bell’s four-year-old was unlucky in running that day and looked on an upward curve when winning at Leicester the following month.
Ryan Moore jumps ship from Addeybb to Fire Brigade, the ground is fine and he’s a strong finisher over this trip.
All is in place for a big run, so have 4pts win at 6-1 generally.
