Col’s back in rehab* *But it’s just for a tune-up and reset

COLIN Farrell has checked into a luxury rehab centre in Arizona for a “tune-up and reset” after being sober for the last 12 years, it has been claimed.

The Irish actor, who has spoken about his drug and alcohol demons in the past, is said to have decided to seek professional help as a preventative measure.

US magazine People said the Dubliner signed himself in to make sure he stays on the straight and narrow.

A source told the publication: “He isn’t drinking again.he worked back-to-back projects and just needed a break. He’s been sober 12 years and wanted to do this to make sure he stays that way.

“He’s taking some me-time and doing a tune-up and a reset. This was all his idea.”

Former Hollywood bad boy Farrell, 41, last headed to rehab in 2005 after he wrapped up filming on Miami Vice.

He reportedly arrived at The Meadows treatment centre last week after fearing a return to his old habits.

The actor is said to have felt “overwhelmed” after a busy year that saw him complete three back-to-back films.

The source added: “The urges started to come back with being so busy at work and he felt, eventually, out of control and thought maybe he should get ahead of it.”

The insider said that in another week the dad of two “could have started using again”.

He added: “Colin has worked so hard to stay sober that only way he thought he could get it under control was to go back and get some professional help. He has a lot of responsibilities and he thought it best to go away for a while and get help.”

The Mirror has contacted Farrell’s representatives for comment.

A stay at elite The Meadows rehab centre, set in the heart of the Arizona desert, costs up to $36,000 (£25,000) a month and has been used by the stars such as of Kate Moss, Selena Gomez and Elle Macpherson.

Patients can take part in a 45-day treatment plan called the Gentle Path in which they are encouraged to undergo counselling and “expressive art”.

Other treatments include horse riding, Tai chi and acupuncture.

When Farrell burst on to the Hollywood scene starring in Tigerland in 2000, he earned a reputation for his wild drinking and womanising.

But the reformed hellraiser has previously said giving up drink was the best decision he ever made.

He added: “All the madness and chaos, and all the people around me got so tiring after a while I had to find another way. I’m glad the madness is over.”

In his wild days Farrell, from Castleknock, was linked to a string of stars including Demi Moore, Kate Beckinsale and his Alexander The Great co-star Angelina Jolie.

But these days he is a family man and doting dad to sons James, 13, and eight-year-old Henry.
