Klopp shows support for fan Sean Liverpool boss in Irish badge tribute

REDS boss Jurgen Klopp wore an Irish Liverpool badge yesterday as a symbol of support for critically ill fan Sean Cox.

The Co Meath dad, 53, remains in a serious condition after being attacked by Roma fans outside Anfield before Tuesday’s Champions League match.

Donning a tricolour Liverbird emblem, Klopp said he was shocked when he heard about the incident.

He added: “We all have to do everything we can to make sure things like that won’t happen any more.

“All our thoughts and prayers are with Sean at the moment and his family.”

Doctors hope to take the GAA club member, from Dunboyne, out of an induced coma on Monday after he suffered a severe bleed to the brain.

Klopp also appealed for peace ahead of the Reds’ second-leg away game against Roma next Wednesday after winning the first match 5-2.

He said: “It’s only football, I never understood people who didn’t understand that fact.”

Roma fans Filippo Lombardi, 20, and 29-year-old Daniele Sciusco appeared at a Merseyside court on Thursday over the assault.

Meanwhile, a Gofundme page, which has been set up to cover Sean’s medical bills and costs incurred by his family, reached a £55,000 target yesterday.

Local Fianna Fail councillor Damien O’reilly said: “Everyone is praying for a speedy recovery for him.”
