DINNY DOES DOUBLE TO DENY DERRY

- BY ARTHUR DUFFY

DERRY CITY crashed out of the FAI Cup after losing to an in-form Bohemians side in last night’s quarterfinal clash at the Brandywell.

After a poor start, Derry actually created the first clear-cut chance of the game on 10 minutes.

Aaron Mceneff weaved past Dan Casey then sent Ronan Mchale free on the right but the winger’s shot from an acute angle was blocked by keeper Shane Supple.

The visitors, however, issued a statement of intent five minutes later when Casey headed a free-kick across the face of the Derry goal before Ger Doherty rose to punch the ball clear of the danger area.

A powerful Kevin Devaney drive kept Doherty alert, the keeper getting down to divert the ball wide.

Bohs got their noses in front in the 43rd minute following a corner. Kevin Devaney floated the ball into the box and Dan Casey rose to head the ball firmly home.

In the 58th minute Bohs doubled their advantage when Dinny Corcoran kept his cool to find the bottom corner of the net.

Derry gave their fans something to shout about when Jamie Mcdonagh’s low centre was driven into the net by Ally Roy.

But the striker was far from happy as he was replaced by youngster Aidan Delap seconds later.

Kenny Shiels’ side finished strongly and Delap went so close to securing an equaliser.

But Bohs maintained their composure and Corcoran provided a tidy finish at the death, his second goal of the night.
