TOMMY FLEETWOOD claimed he felt like a rock star or World Cup final goalscorer at the end – and is now ready to enjoy more fame.

The people’s champion from Southport was at the centre of wild celebrations with 50,000 fans following Europe’s crushing Ryder Cup win at Le Golf National.

“It was amazing,” said Everton fan Fleetwood. “It is the closest thing we get to being a rock star or a footballer scoring a goal in a World Cup final – that is what it felt like. It is very, very cool. When you are part of a Ryder Cup, you can see why people like Ian Poulter, who lives and breathes for the Ryder Cup, wanted to get back in that team so badly.

“I have not won Majors – I have gone down the stretch trying to win them – it is not even a comparison being on the 16th hole on a Friday morning trying to win a point. It is just amazing, just weird.

“And the celebrations – there are not normally 50,000 people around egging me on. I have never won a Ryder Cup with team-mates and a crowd behind you. I loved it.

“The fans were amazing, weren’t they? It was nice to be done playing and give back a bit. I was having a good time!”

Fleetwood said the team celebrations on Sunday night – where Americans Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson joined in – were “more mellow”.

He explained: “That was pure happiness and a sense
