Wembley is all right, said Ced
CEDRIC SOARES has urged Southampton to target another Wembley final to help get their season up and running.
Mark Hughes’ men have won just once in seven Premier League games this term, 2-0 at Crystal Palace.
They visit top-flight rivals Everton in the third round of the Carabao Cup tonight – with a trip to Leicester awaiting the winners.
Saints reached the League Cup final in 2017 when they were unlucky to lose 3-2 to Manchester United.
Soares says winning at Goodison Park can give them a Premier League boost before entertaining Chelsea on Sunday. Portuguese full-back Soares, 27, said: “We were in the final of this competition two seasons ago and why not try to be there again?
“At this moment it is important if we win because we may turn the season around.
“It is a big opportunity and another competition. We face Everton and face them to win. Every game we want to try and win.”
Blues boss Marco Silva is setting his stall out to lift the Carabao Cup and wants to build momentum on the back of Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Fulham.
He said: “I don’t see this as a game to change everything.
“It’s important we start to have some consistency in our starting XI. We respect the competition and have ambitions in it.
“I have players working hard, showing me they want to play but too many players is never good.”
