Thug with 74 con­vic­tions guilty of bit­ing off part of ex-lover’s nose & punch­ing her

A NO­TO­RI­OUS thug was yes­ter­day found guilty of bit­ing off part of his girl­friend’s nose af­ter bat­ter­ing her.

A court heard Stephen Mccar­ron had 74 pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions.

The 35-year-old from Derry will be sen­tenced next month.

A MAN has been found guilty of bit­ing off part of his girl­friend’s nose. Stephen Charles Mccar­ron, 35, from Derry, was yes­ter­day con­victed of at­tack­ing the vic­tim in her flat af­ter he breached a re­strain­ing or­der.

But he was found not guilty of threat­en­ing to kill the woman. Mccar­ron, who had 74 pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions, was re­manded in con­tin­u­ing cus­tody un­til a sen­tence hear­ing next month.

He will also be sen­tenced for breach­ing a re­strain­ing or­der by be­ing in his girl­friend’s Bog­side flat on Au­gust 15 last year.

The jurors were told

Mccar­ron had al­ready ad­mit­ted that of­fence. The ac­cused, from Moy­ola Drive, and his vic­tim had been in a re­la­tion­ship for two years at the time of the at­tack.

It oc­curred af­ter they had at­tended a bon­fire in the Bog­side fol­low­ing a day-long drink­ing binge.

Mccar­ron, who did not give ev­i­dence dur­ing his five-day trial, kicked and punched the 32-year-old be­fore bit­ing her on the nose, par­tially sev­er­ing her right nos­tril.

The woman re­ported the as­sault to a do­mes­tic vi­o­lence group which told her to go to Alt­nagelvin Hospi­tal to have her in­jury treated.

Derry Crown Court heard she is still await­ing re­con­struc­tive plas­tic surgery.
