Armed gang tie up worker dur­ing raid

A GANG armed with a hand­gun or­dered a shop worker to fill bags with cig­a­rettes be­fore mak­ing off with cash in the early hours of yes­ter­day.

The Ap­ple­green em­ployee was then tied up be­fore the thugs fled the petrol sta­tion on the Crankhill Road out­side Ballymena, Co Antrim.

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses, par­tic­u­larly a woman who they be­lieve “un­wit­tingly” walked in dur­ing the rob­bery, which took place be­tween 2.15am and 2.30am.

De­tec­tive Sergeant Peter Crothers said: “While we do not be­lieve she was con­nected in any way to the rob­bery, she may have in­for­ma­tion that could help with our in­ves­ti­ga­tion into what took place.”
