Ho­tel kill bid: Man in court

A MAN ap­peared in court yes­ter­day in con­nec­tion with the at­tempted mur­der of two women and se­ri­ous as­sault on a man who tried to help them.

The fe­male vic­tims aged 60 and 58, from North­ern Ire­land, suf­fered slash and stab wounds out­side their Ed­in­burgh ho­tel in the early hours of Thurs­day.

Peter Cameron, of no fixed abode, ap­peared in the city’s Sher­iff Court on pe­ti­tion in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent. Cameron, 38, made no plea and he was re­manded in cus­tody.

The case was con­tin­ued for fur­ther ex­am­i­na­tion and the ac­cused is ex­pected to ap­pear back in court within eight days. Cameron was charged fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent out­side the Apex ho­tel in the city’s Grass­mar­ket at around 3.35am on Thurs­day.

Two pals from North­ern Ire­land and a 37-year-old night porter were treated in hospi­tal for slash and stab in­juries.

Po­lice launched a man­hunt af­ter the in­ci­dent when the women, who were wear­ing their py­ja­mas and smok­ing out­side the ho­tel, were se­ri­ously in­jured.
