- BY GARETH FULLERTON

CLIFTONVILLE keeper Richard Brush was rushed to hospital following his side’s match with Newry City on Monday after falling ill.

The Reds No.1 , who had played in the Sky Sports televised fixture at Solitude, required roadside medical attention after having to pull over his car on his way home from the North Belfast venue.

He was taken to hospital where he continues to undergo tests.

Cliftonville manager Barry Gray said: “Richard fell ill on his way home from the game. He was taken to hospital and they are running some tests to see what happened. It is understandably a very concerning time for

Richard and his family but we should respect their privacy.

“I have been keeping in touch with Richard and was talking to him today. He seems to be feeling a lot better and I think the hospital are due to run some more tests this afternoon.

“It was a serious incident on Monday night and thankfully he got hospital treatment as quickly as he did.

“Hopefully the hospital tests will shed some more light on things but we wouldn’t want to speculate any further.”

Brush signed for Cliftonville in the summer despite announcing his retirement from football at the end of last season.

He had two spells in the League of Ireland with Sligo Rovers, a further two spells with Shamrock Rovers and also featured for a time at Finn Harps before heading to Northern Ireland with Ballinamallard United.
