TRIBUTES PAID TO MAN KILLED IN VAN HORROR

Two injured after 6am road smash

A YOUNG man died in car crash which has left a small community in shock yesterday.

Sean Mcalonan, aged in his 20s, was killed and two others were taken to hospital after the accident at 6am in Ballycastl­e, Co Antrim.

They were in a white Citroen Berlingo van that crashed on the Glenshesk Road.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

Sinn Fein’s Cara Mcshane said: “News of this crash has shocked the local community here in Ballycastl­e and the wider Glen’s area.

“Too often we wake up on a Sunday morning to hear of another horror on our roads.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life at this sad and difficult time.

“Sean was from a very well-known and respected family and our hearts go out to them all.

“This terrible accident has also left other people injured and I wish them a full and speedy recovery.

“This community will rally around and support the families at this time.”

A PSNI spokesman said: “Two of the occupants were taken to hospital for their injuries which are not believed to be life-threatenin­g at this time. Sadly, the third occupant in the van was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The PSNI have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
