Killed by fall onto a straw

A RETIRED jockey died after falling and impaling her eye on a metal drinking straw, an inquest heard.

Elena Struthersgardner, 60, suffered “unsurvivable brain injuries” at her home in Poole, Dorset, on November 22.

Life support was withdrawn in the early hours of the following morning in hospital in Southampton.

A postmortem examination revealed that she died of traumatic brain injury.

The inquest was adjourned until July.
