It’s the season to be jolly... hungover

- BY JAMES MOORE

MILLIONS of us will be suffering with a sore head over the next few weeks as revellers celebrate the festive season.

So what’s the best cure after a merry night out on the tiles?

Here we look at the hangover cures recommended by some top celebrities and find that many of them may have some merit after all…

Like millions of others, the celebrity chef gives the traditional fry-up the thumbs up – it’s the nation’s favourite cure.

If it doesn’t make you sick, it turns out that a full fry-up could ease your troubles. Scientists say that the level of carbohydrates in the meal can restore sugar levels, while research has also found more than a third of those who chose to eat a fry-up recovered from their hangover in less than three hours, compared to 19% of those who took painkillers.

After a Christmas party last year, the I’m A Celebrity presenter said: “Ginger’s good for a lot of reasons.”

If you often feel sick after a night out then ginger tea could be the key. While alcohol can irritate the stomach lining, ginger has been found to help counter nausea.

The caffeine in coffee and the anti-inflammatory ingredients in painkillers can combine to offset the chemical compounds of alcohol that leave us with a headache, according to a study carried out by Thomas Jefferson University in America. Before reportedly going teetotal while wife Meghan Markle is pregnant, the Duke of

Sussex is believed to have favoured a strawberry milkshake. Milk contains proteins that experts say can counteract alcohol and aid sleep. But a banana milkshake might be better – the fruit is packed with potassium that your body tends to lose after drinking.

Corrie’s Sophie Webster thinks sleep is the best cure for a hangover.

Staying in bed certainly seems like a good idea and it may help the body repair itself. Interestingly, it may be worth getting plenty of rest before a night out as experts say that sleep deprivation can actually make a hangover more severe.
