Deal could give Swifts a Clif edge
Cliftonville v Dungannon Solitude, 3pm
DUNGANNON Swifts have been boosted by the news Daniel Hughes has committed his future to the club ahead of today’s Irish Cup trip to Solitude.
Hughes, who joined the club from today’s opponents Cliftonville last January, has penned a contract extension until 2021.
Swifts boss Kris Lindsay said: “I’m delighted because Daniel is a natural goal scorer and has the type of quality we need going forward.”
Hughes, who has scored four goals this season, said: “I agreed to sign an extension because I like the plans Kris has for the club moving forward.
“Since signing for Dungannon last year, I feel I’ve settled in well and I want to be part of what’s happening at the club.”
Today’s clash between Dungannon and Cliftonville – who are bidding to respond to four straight defeats in the league – is one of three top-flight ties in the fifth round.
Crusaders are at home to Glentoran, while Institute host Warrenpoint Town at the Brandywell.
Stute head into today’s last-32 fixture on the back of a seven game unbeaten run, while Warrenpoint shocked Glenavon 3-1 in their last league outing, on New Year’s Day.
Elsewhere, Championship pacesetters Larne host top flight Newry City in an intriguing clash at Inver Park.
Larne, who reached last season’s semi-finals, can call upon new signings in midfielder Lee Lynch and striker Benny Igiehon, who are both eligible for selection.
Midfielder Lynch joined last month after leaving Sligo while striker Igiehorn recently featured for Boston in the English National League.
