Crackdown on toxic fuel
HIGHLY polluting fuels for log burners and open fires are to be banned.
Environment Secretary Michael Gove wants to reduce exposure to toxic particulate matter.
Ministers predict it will save £1.7billion a year by 2020 on health spending.
Mr Gove said: “Air pollution continues to shorten lives, harm our children and reduce quality of life.”
The plan will ensure only the cleanest stoves are sold by 2022 and councils will get new powers.
Sales of traditional house coal may be phased out while pollution from fertilisers could be tackled.
