HE WILL BE QUINN FROM THE START FOR FIRST TIME

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

QUINN ROUX will make his first Six Nations start in what Greg Feek describes as “100 per cent a must-win game” on Saturday.

The only championship experience Roux can fall back on is coming off the bench, twice last year and then again last week against England. The Connacht lock comes in for Devin Toner (ankle), with Iain Henderson and Tadhg Beirne already ruled out, and will partner James Ryan.

“Quinn did really well at the weekend, he came on and put a couple of big hits in,” said Ireland’s scrum coach Feek.

“He’s been leading the lineout in Connacht. He’s really progressed there and matured.

“He’s been in our environment since the South Africa tour (in 2016).

“Good in the scrum, mauling; as a tight forward he ticks a lot of boxes.”

Feek admits that it is a mental challenge for Ireland’s Grand Slam-winning young guns who hadn’t experienced a Six Nations defeat before to pick themselves up after last weekend’s loss.

“It’s interesting because they probably haven’t had the adversity that I, as a coach, that Joe and a lot of the other players have been through before,” he said.

“Everyone is quite hard on themselves. We all put our hands up and say, ‘We didn’t do this right or that right’.

“We all take a little bit of responsibility for it.

“So those young guys will be looking around saying, ‘This is a new experience’.

“There could be all sorts of questions being asked and hopefully, let’s not dwell on them too much.

“We have to learn and turn and go because 100 per cent, it’s a must-win.

“But you don’t survive in this environment if you can’t handle the pressure.”
