HERE’S PROOF THAT YOU CAN POLISH A THIRD

- BY PAT NOLAN

DIVISION THREE’S status as the most competitive of the lot is probably best reflected in the fact it’s the only division where no team has a 100% record after just two rounds of games.

Carlow top the table on scoring difference with a win and a draw from their two games, setting them well on the way to their base aim of avoiding relegation after their rare promotion last year and there’s no reason for them to limit their ambitions at that.

With Longford coming to Netwatch Cullen Park tomorrow still minus their Mullinalaghta players, it’s an excellent opportunity for Turlough O’brien’s side.

Louth and Offaly have been unable to take full advantage of Longford’s obvious weakness for the early stages of the

League though Carlow look poised to collect another brace of points.

Before that, Down welcome Westmeath to Newry this evening on the back of a good win in Sligo. They can follow it up with another one here.

The loser of the Offalylouth game in Tullamore tomorrow could well be on a fasttrack to Division Three.

Offaly have spluttered a bit in their opening two games and while Louth surprised Laois last week, the home side get a hesitant vote to prevail.

Sligo are in real trouble already as the only pointless team in Division Three and could be on the receiving end of a Laois backlash at O’moore

Park.

Last week’s loss to Louth was John Sugrue’s first in League or Championship to non-division One opposition since taking charge of Laois.

It’s unlikely to happen in successive weeks.
