RORY AND FERM ERNE SHOCK WIN

- Donegal Fermanagh BY GERRY MCLAUGHLIN

FEISTY Fermanagh staged a late smash and grab act against 13- man Donegal to stay joint top of Division Two after a frenetic affair in Letterkenny.

The hosts lost impressive wing forward Caolan Mcgonagle to a second yellow card in the 18th minute - one of 13 cards dished out by Armagh referee Pauric Hughes.

But they had a bigger loss when corner-back Stephen Mcmenamin was black-carded in the 60th minute. Donegal were winning by 0-10 to 0-8 at that stage and the gap was narrowed by a Sean

Quigley free as a result and it was 15 against 13 for the majority of the remainder.

The increasingly confident Ernesiders tagged on five points with man of the match Ciaran Corrigan leading the way.

Teenager Ultan Kelm sealed victory with a fine point after a 40 metre run.

Shell-shocked Donegal, who had dominated for long periods, could only manage two pointed frees in the second half while Fermanagh tacked on nine points in that time.

Donegal dominated the opening half and were more than worth their 0-8 to 0-4 half-time lead. They didn’t hit a single wide in that half as the wasteful vistors hit seven.

Jamie Brennan, Jason Mcgee, Michael Langan and Eoghan Ban all hit fine scores as they led by 0-5 to 0-1 after 16 minutes.

And the loss of Mcgonagle seemed to make very little difference to the pattern of the game as points from Corrigan and Sean Quigley left just four points between the sides at the interval.

But Fermanagh gradually ate into the Donegal lead and when Mcmenamin was black-carded it Rory Gallagher was able to celebrate with son Sean at full-time (above).
