COLERAINE SPOT ON.. AT LAST

- BY CARL KENNEDY

EOIN BRADLEY was on the spot to spare Coleraine’s blushes on a dramatic day of two missed penalties against 10-man Glentoran at the Showgrounds.

Jamie Mcgonigle and Dean Shiels were both guilty of blazing second half penalties over the bar, the first after Calum Birney was red carded for handling on the line.

But Bradley made amends (left) when he blazed a THIRD spot kick past Dwayne Nelson after he himself was fouled by Gavin Peers inside the penalty area.

January signing Ben Doherty put the result beyond doubt with a second for Rodney Mcaree’s men four minutes from time.

Boss Rod Mcaree said: “The three penalties were in quick succession and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it before, but thankfully we went on to win the game.

“The lads thought the turf maybe moved when they planted their foot and we’ve had parts of the pitch relaid, so maybe it hasn’t bedded in as we would have liked.

“It takes courage to step up and thankfully the third one from Skinner [Bradley] went in.”

Two goals in eight second half minutes from Ryan Curran made it two straight wins for new Cliftonville boss Paddy Mclaughlin with a 2-0 win at Warrenpoint Town.

Institute also made it two wins on the bounce with a 2-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts, with Jamie Dunne and Joe Mccready on target for the Drumahoe men.
