UUP MAN’S SHAME AFTER ‘SUPER PROVO’ COMMENTS
Apology and payout to Mcclean
FOOTBALLER James Mcclean will receive damages from a councillor who wrongly referred to him as a “super Provo”, a court has heard.
Ulster Unionist Chris Mcgimpsey also issued an unreserved apology yesterday for unfounded comments made “in the heat of the moment” on radio.
A further hearing may now be required to determine the level of compensation to be paid to the Stoke City winger. Mcclean, 29, BRITAIN’S joint oldest man buys party supplies at his local supermarket yesterday ahead of his 111th birthday.
Bob Weighton still does all his own shopping with his personalised stroller and insists he is “not extraordinary”.
He said: “People find it amazing because of how old I am, but I’ll keep issued defamation proceedings following Mr Mcgimpsey’s appearance on BBC Radio Ulster’s Nolan Show last November.
The Derry-born footballer’s lawyers told the High Court in Belfast the remarks were then repeated and the focus of commentary on social media.
As part of steps to resolve the legal action, a barrister for Mr Mcgimpsey said: “He accepts the statement was false and completely inaccurate.”
