Harassment case cop ‘didn’t recognise Tommy Robinson’
A POLICEMAN accused of harassment for moving Tommy Robinson on from a pub told a court he did not recognise the English Defence League founder.
Far-right activist Robinson, 36, who appeared in court yesterday under real name Stephen Yaxley-lennon, is suing Cambridgeshire Police, claiming they targeted him “for his beliefs” after a football match.
Robinson said he took his three children, aged between five and nine at the time, to see Luton Town play away at Cambridge United in August 2016.
Sgt Paul Street asked Robinson to leave a pub in the city after the match. He told Peterborough county court: “I didn’t know what he looked like but had heard the name. My understanding was he was an 80s football hooligan… He wasn’t with his children. He was with a load of men drinking beer.”
The case continues.
