KHAN v DIB SHEIKH THAT

Khan has worked like Mayweather for desert clash, says new second Bones

AMIR KHAN’S new cornerman Clarence ‘Bones’ Adams claims the British boxer trains as hard as Floyd Mayweather Junior.

Adams has teamed up with Khan for tomorrow’s clash with Billy Dib in Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City stadium, Saudi Arabia, and says he has the same work ethic as the legendary Mayweather.

Adams is based in Las Vegas near Mayweather and claims Khan trains with the hunger of a penniless prospect.

“Amir has the ability and he wants to work,” said the former WBA superbantamweight champion. “Once I lost that will to work, I retired.

“Amir puts in the effort of a broke 26-year-old and that’s all you can ask for as a trainer.

“It’s very rare to have that amount of money and still be hungry, I take my hat off to him.

“He’s like Floyd Mayweather in that respect and people don’t realise how hard Floyd still trains, despite being so wealthy.

“Floyd still does five-hour sessions, getting through two or three shirts, people don’t realise how hard he works.

“The more money he gets, the harder he works. Apart from before the Conor Mcgregor fight! And I see that in Amir.”

Adams, 45, has worked with top fighters such as Nonito Donaire and Jorge Linares in his Vegas gym and would love to train Khan for his mooted November 9 showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

Khan claims he will probably split from Virgil Hunter after seven years together for these last few fights of his career and ‘Bones’ claims he could help him win a third world title. The former WBA and light-welterweight king last held a world title in 2012 and Bones insists he is not finished.

“He wants to learn and of course it takes a whole lot of time for all that to work,” said the American.

“We have plans for after this fight to get back in the gym, work on good habits and get rid of bad habits.

“It would be awesome to be in his corner for the Pacquiao fight – a great honour.

“I wish I had got Amir years ago, but he’s only 32 and I see his drive in the gym. He’s working harder than ever.

“If I can add some more boxing knowledge and theory then he can add a good few years to his career.

“He’s not done yet, he could win another world title and with all the things he has achieved that would just be a bonus.”
